Shield Weekend in Horsham

The annual inter-town table tennis competition between Mount Gambier, Warrnambool, Hamilton and Horsham was held in Horsham last weekend.  Each club fields a three member men's, women's, boy's and girl's team and compete for individual shields, with the best performing club winning the Aggregate Shield.  This year the Mount Gambier Club finished second to Warrnambool, largely on the strength of its junior teams, with the girl's team winning the Jenkins Shield for the first time since its inception in 1978.  While all players played strongly, standout performances came from girl's team members Emily McPharlin (9 wins out of 9 matches) and Sarah Pilven (8 wins), boy's team member James Gurry (8 wins) and women's team member Katrina McPhee (7 wins).
